Vienna, Austria — May 2, 2026 Vienna woman stabbed by husband in domestic attack
A 44-year-old woman was critically injured in Vienna after her husband attacked her with a knife, an incident that also left their two adult children wounded as they intervened to protect her.
Arrest and Injuries
The 46-year-old assailant was overpowered by his own children—a 26-year-old daughter and a 23-year-old son—before police arrived to arrest him. Both siblings sustained injuries while attempting to defend their mother. The daughter suffered a cut on her hand, while the son was stabbed in the leg.
Emergency medical services treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Authorities later confirmed her condition had stabilized and was no longer life-threatening. The husband, who was issued a restraining order and a temporary weapons ban, was transferred to a correctional facility by order of the public prosecutor’s office.
Weapon and Legal Measures
Police seized the alleged weapon used in the attack—a pocket knife with a 10cm blade. The husband has not provided any statements regarding the incident or his motives.
Legal measures were swiftly enacted following the arrest. In addition to the restraining order and weapons ban, the suspect was moved to a detention center. The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in Austria, where authorities have increasingly enforced stricter protective measures in such cases.
