Koulibaly speaks out for Senegal

Vinicius Jr. is not the only national-team captain to speak out after a disappointing exit. Senegal's Kalidou Koulibaly also addressed fans days after his side lost 2-3 in extra time to Belgium, having led 2-0. Koulibaly, who plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, wrote that the nights since the dramatic elimination in Seattle had been "long" and that the squad had been "united, supportive and thoroughly professional" from the first to the last day of the tournament.

Koulibaly, 35, said he understood the criticism coming from back home and thanked supporters for their backing. He also rejected rumors that he had influenced team selection during the competition.
