Wolfsburg, 10 July 2026
The Volkswagen Group had to absorb a significant sales decline in the second quarter of 2026, with sales in China – its most important market – plunging by 36.6 percent.
As the Wolfsburg-based automaker announced on 10 July 2026, deliveries of the core Volkswagen brand fell by 14 percent in the second quarter to 1.02 million vehicles. Group-wide, sales amounted to just under 2.1 million vehicles – a decrease of 8.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Across all brands of the Volkswagen Group, 2.08 million vehicles were delivered, corresponding to a decline of almost 9 percent.
The Group was hit particularly hard in China: "sales in China - the most important sales market - collapsed by 36.6 percent," as the company reported. In absolute figures, deliveries there fell to 424,300 vehicles. China has been considered Volkswagen's most important single market for years, which is why the slump there weighs disproportionately on the overall result.
