One in four industrial companies in Austria is considering relocating parts of its production abroad, according to a current survey by the Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ).
Background of the Survey
As the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) announced on Friday, many businesses feel under pressure due to increasing international trade tensions. The share of companies with concrete relocation plans has risen again compared to the previous survey, it said.
The WKÖ cited uncertainties surrounding US trade policy and persistently high energy costs in Europe as the central causes. Bureaucratic burdens at the Austrian location also played a role in the considerations.
At the same time, the majority of the companies surveyed remain committed to Austria as a production location. The most important advantages, from the companies' perspective, are high energy supply security, reliable infrastructure, and research-friendly framework conditions.
