Chinese President Xi Jinping warned U.S. President Donald Trump during a summit in Beijing that Taiwan remains the "most important issue" between their nations, with differences risking direct conflict.

Taiwan Dominates Summit Agenda

Xi placed Taiwan at the center of discussions, calling it "the most important issue" between China and the U.S. and warning that mishandling the matter could destabilize bilateral relations. "'Taiwan independence' and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water," Xi said, according to Chinese state media. He added that "safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is the biggest common denominator between China and the U.S."
