LONDON, April 17, 2026

A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for owning an XL-Bully dog that fatally attacked an 84-year-old man in northwest England, marking one of the most severe penalties under the UK's dangerous dog laws.

The Fatal Attack

The incident occurred in February 2025 when the elderly victim was walking home from a pub in northwest England. According to the British news agency PA, the man was attacked in the driveway of a house by the 46-kilogram dog, named Toretto. The attack lasted 45 minutes, during which the victim remained conscious and endured what authorities described as "unbearable pain."

Investigations revealed that Toretto had begun to eat the victim alive during the prolonged mauling. Armed police officers were forced to intervene, shooting the dog 10 times to stop the attack. "Bewaffnete Polizisten erschossen den 46 Kilogramm schweren Hund namens «Toretto» mit zehn Schüssen," PA reported, citing court documents.
