Mainz, 12 July 2026
ZDF is showing the World Cup round of 16 match between Norway and England live on its main channel on Sunday and will accompany the match afterwards with the Sportstudio.
The German national football team is no longer in the tournament at this World Cup, yet the World Cup remains a ratings guarantee for German broadcasters. On Sunday, ZDF is putting the round of 16 match between Norway and England at the center of its live coverage. Kickoff is at 9:00 PM CEST, with pre-match coverage beginning significantly earlier in the evening.
In the afternoon, ZDF is already showing a varied pre-program with World Cup highlights, analysis, and background reports. Numerous documentaries are available in the Mediathek, including the series „Schland in Sicht!“, the documentary „Echt – Christian Streich“, and the program „ICONS – Deutsche WM-Legenden“. „Rudi Völler: Eine deutsche Fußball-Legende“ from the Terra X History series is also available there.
Broadcast schedule at a glance
On the main channel, a „WM-Special“ with Jürgen Klopp and Sami Khedira starts at 7:25 PM, setting the mood for the evening match. Football fans in Germany can thus follow the match without pay-TV access. ARD's Das Erste is broadcasting the match between Portugal and Switzerland in parallel, so both round of 16 qualifiers for the quarterfinals can be seen live on free TV.
