Zurich, 21 May 2026

The Zurich FDP has changed its strategy for the 2027 cantonal government elections, moving from a planned single-candidate approach to considering multiple candidates, with delegates set to make the final decision on June 23.

Initially, the Zurich FDP intended to nominate only Nationalrat Andri Silberschmidt as their candidate for the April 2027 elections, where he was favored to secure the seat of outgoing Economic Director Carmen Walker Späh.

However, the party has now decided to let delegates choose between running with one or two candidates, expanding the field to include Monika Keller, Martin Huber, and Frank Rühli alongside Silberschmidt.

Frank Rühli had already launched a campaign website presenting himself as a candidate, indicating internal party discussions about the best strategy.
