Halle (Westphalia), June 17, 2026

French Open winner Alexander Zverev only narrowly won his first match after his Grand Slam triumph in Paris at the ATP grass-court tournament in Halle and will meet Yannick Hanfmann from Karlsruhe in the round of 16.

In his first match after the biggest triumph of his career, Zverev celebrated a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory over the Czech Vit Kopriva. Pulled back and forth over 2:09 hours, Zverev converted his first match point on Tuesday on the Centre Court in Halle (Westphalia) only late in the contest. Zverev himself subsequently spoke of a working win: "Aber ich habe gewonnen, das ist das Wichtigste."

World number 64 Kopriva, who had battled his way through qualifying into the main draw, stuck with the favorite for a long time. Neither player lost their own serve up to the score of 4:4 in the first set. Then Zverev worked two break points, which Kopriva both saved and instead took a 5:4 lead himself. Zverev appeared annoyed in this phase but found his way back and clinched the first set 6-3.
