The newly crowned French Open champion Alexander Zverev cut short an interview with the French sports newspaper L'Équipe when, one day after his final victory, he was asked about earlier allegations of domestic violence.
Car ride and mood shift
Zverev had won the French Open final on Sunday against Italy's Flavio Cobolli, claiming his first Grand Slam title. Just one day later, according to the newspaper, he met with L'Équipe journalists during a shared car ride to talk about his greatest sporting achievement. According to L'Équipe, the conversation initially began in a "carefree and even warmhearted" atmosphere, during which Zverev spoke about, among other things, his long road to the title, the most important people in his life, and his diabetes condition.
