14-Year-Old Arrested in Vienna-Brigittenau – Search for Five More Juveniles

Once again, it was attentive witnesses who called the police. Based on a precise description of the suspects as well as a photo taken by a witness, police were able to stop and arrest a 14-year-old Afghan national in the area of Anton-Kummerer-Park.

Second Crime Scene: Attempted Break-In into Business Premises

While the group was breaking into the taxi, the remaining juveniles are said to have moved on to Klosterneuburger Straße and attempted to break into a business premises there. This caused the group to split up physically, enabling the officers to immediately identify at least one suspect.

During the further official proceedings, at least one other suspect became known by name, according to police. The investigations into the five juveniles still at large are ongoing.

Role of the Witnesses

Vienna police were alerted to Leipziger Straße in the 20th district in the night into Saturday after several witnesses observed the suspected break-in into the taxi. The taxi driver was not in the vehicle when the window was smashed, according to current knowledge.

Investigations by the State Criminal Police Office

The further investigations are now being led by the State Criminal Police Office, specifically the Zentrum/Ost branch of the Vienna State Criminal Police Office. The responsible special unit has taken over case management, as it concerns a series of juvenile suspects.
