A 16-year-old attacked a 23-year-old security guard and subsequently threatened him with a kitchen knife in a crisis center in Vienna-Neubau on the late evening of July 10, 2026.
According to the information, the teenager is said to have initially struck the security guard with a boxing glove shortly after 11 p.m. for reasons that remain unclear. He then allegedly "unter Vorhaltung eines Küchenmessers mehrfach mit dem Umbringen bedroht haben".
Course of the Attack
When the 16-year-old allegedly threw the knife at the security guard, it bounced off the closed balcony door. The 23-year-old then managed to escape onto the balcony and call emergency services from there.
Officers from the Josefstadt City Police Command took the teenager into temporary custody shortly afterward. A caregiver who was present was then able to secure the knife, according to a police press release issued on Saturday.
Arrest and Transfer
The police reported on Saturday: „Der Jugendliche wurde festgenommen und in eine Justizanstalt eingeliefert". On the orders of the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, the 16-year-old was transferred to a correctional facility.
