A Munich court has opened formal insolvency proceedings against the professional football arm of TSV 1860 Munich, plunging the club deeper into crisis days after its forced descent out of the 3. Liga.
The local court, Amtsgericht München, appointed an insolvency administrator to safeguard the debtor's assets from disadvantageous changes, according to a public notice. The proceedings target the "TSV München von 1860 GmbH & Co. Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien" (KGaA), the operating company that has run the professional side, the U21 and the U19, jointly shared between the parent association and investor Hasan Ismaik.
According to media reports, 1860 managing director Manfred Paula filed the insolvency application with the court on Tuesday evening. The filing came against the backdrop of a power struggle with Ismaik, the Jordanian investor who has long been a polarizing figure among the club's supporters.
