A 27-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment in Kottingbrunn, Lower Austria, on 14 May 2026, with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim, who worked as a secretary at a full-day school in Vienna-Favoriten and was studying at a university of applied sciences, was discovered by relatives after they had not heard from her for some time.

The parents of the 27-year-old were on vacation at the time and found her upon their return. Authorities confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound from a .22 caliber projectile.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are currently searching for the perpetrator. The incident has shocked the small community of Kottingbrunn, located in the district of Baden.

This tragic event follows another case of femicide in Styria, where a 64-year-old man allegedly shot his 59-year-old wife with a rifle on a farm.
