3:3 between YB and Basel after 0:2 deficit – Shaqiri praises the mentality

Shaqiri praises the morale

Xherdan Shaqiri put the point gained into perspective accordingly. Speaking to SRF after the match, he said: "Schade, haben wir nicht gewonnen. Aber wenn man gegen YB 0:2 hinten liegt und so zurück kommt wie wir, kann man zufrieden sein. Wir haben Mentalität gezeigt." In doing so, he pointed to the course of the game and the willpower of his team.

On the Young Boys side, players such as Joël Monteiro and Akpe Victory stood out, drawing attention to themselves with goal involvements. Asane Sow and Alvyn Sanches also got their names on the scoresheet. For Basel, Metinho was one of the driving forces who shaped the game.

Goalscorers and key players

From a tactical perspective, the match offered both teams phases in which they dominated. Young Boys struggled to find solutions against Basel's aggressive pressing, but found their way back into the game after the deficit. Basel, in turn, failed to see out their lead over time.

For the table, the draw means that both teams can pocket a point. Neither YB nor FCB were able to pull decisively clear of the competition, but both remain in the race at the top end of the league. The point is particularly valuable morally for Young Boys given the deficit, and for Basel it is a deserved result after the comeback.

A look at the table and the mood

The mood in the Wankdorf was mixed after the final whistle. While the home fans applauded the late equalizer, the traveling Basel supporters were able to celebrate their team's character. Both camps acknowledged that it had truly been a top match – with everything that goes with it: pace, twists, and ultimately a draw that was a fair reflection of the performance.

In the coming days, both teams will take the lessons from this intense duel with them. For YB, it is clear that the defense needs to be more solid in the opening minutes. Basel, in turn, can build on the mentality they showed, even though the result ultimately did not bring the hoped-for three points.
