A 43-year-old woman, who according to investigators was deployed as a 24-hour caregiver in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, has been arrested following a theft in Eisenerz on suspicion of having stolen from seniors in need of care over a period of years.

Arrest following theft in Eisenerz

The arrest was carried out on the orders of the Steyr Public Prosecutor's Office. The 43-year-old was taken into Linz correctional facility, according to investigations by the Styria State Criminal Police Office. According to police, the woman is a Romanian national who had been employed as a caregiver in private households through placement agencies over the past years.

The focus of the investigation is an incident from May 2026 in Eisenerz in the district of Leoben. Following this theft, the 43-year-old came under the scrutiny of the criminal investigators, who subsequently reconstructed her activities across multiple countries. In Austria, she is so far charged with at least eight thefts.
