48-year-old arrested in Vienna-Favoriten: Suspected embezzlement of 11,000 euros from his own grandmother

Police then lured the suspect to the Vienna State Criminal Intelligence Office. According to the investigation files, he was told that an "important document" needed to be personally served on him. He was arrested at that point, according to the Economic Crime Unit of the Vienna State Criminal Intelligence Office.

Police place the time frame of the offense as the period beginning January 1, 2026. During that period, the 48-year-old is alleged to have used the funds entrusted to him, totaling around 11,000 euros, for himself rather than using them in his grandmother's interest and for her care.

In Austria, court-appointed adult representatives may only dispose of the assets of the persons they represent within the scope of their mandate. Any use for purposes other than those intended constitutes embezzlement in the assessment of criminal law experts.

Vienna police emphasized that the grandmother continues to receive medical and nursing care. Care services and relatives have been involved, it was said. The 92-year-old is not currently in any acute distress, and the outstanding care materials will be paid for retroactively or newly arranged.
