Kufstein, 22 August 2026
A 90-year-old man was rescued from his burning apartment in Kufstein, Austria, late on Friday night after a neighbour alerted emergency services to the kitchen fire.
The fire broke out around 22:30 in the kitchen of the elderly resident's apartment, according to the available reports. The quick reaction of those nearby is credited with preventing a tragedy: a neighbour raised the alarm and the resident was brought out of the building before the flames could spread further. Emergency services were dispatched to the multi-party residential building on the Jahnstraße in Kufstein and brought the fire under control.
Firefighters from the Kufstein area responded to the call and entered the apartment to extinguish the blaze. Their work limited the damage to the kitchen area, while smoke spread through parts of the dwelling. Neighbours who had already noticed the smell of smoke were able to guide the elderly man to safety and provide initial assistance before the professional crews arrived on scene.
