An articulated truck rear-ended the end of a traffic jam on the A1 motorway near Bremen in the direction of Hamburg on Monday at around 4:15 p.m., after which the road was fully closed.
According to the autobahn police's initial findings, the accident occurred at around four-fifteen. As a spokesperson stated, the articulated truck drove into the end of a traffic jam that had previously formed on the A1 heading toward Hamburg.
The autobahn police fully closed the affected lane in the direction of Hamburg. Traffic then backed up considerably on one of Germany's most important north-south connections.
Background: The A1 between Bremen and Hamburg
The A1, as one of the central east-west routes, connects the Ruhr region with Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. On the section between Bremen and Hamburg, thousands of daily commuters and trucks travel back and forth, which is why disruptions can have far-reaching consequences for the entire northern German economic area.
