ADAC tests have shown that emergency braking assistants often fail to reliably detect pedestrians wearing high-visibility vests and brake in time.
The ADAC examined how driver assistance systems react to different traffic situations in a range of scenarios. The focus was on pedestrians wearing high-visibility vests, who are intended to be clearly visible to motorists. However, the systems tested did not always detect the people reliably.
Fabian Faehrmann, ADAC spokesperson, explained the problem with the reflective strips: “Our experts suspect that the systems are confused by reflective strips located approximately at bonnet height – which is also why the results in the tests involving a child were similar.”
