ÖAMTC technology expert Steffan Kerbl has pointed out in light of the current heatwave that technical detection systems for children in the car are only intended as an additional aid and cannot replace supervision by adults.
During summer temperatures, the risk for children left unattended in the vehicle rises dramatically. The interior of a car can heat up to values well above the outside temperature within a short time, which quickly becomes dangerous for a child's organism. The ÖAMTC is using the current weather conditions to draw attention to this repeatedly underestimated risk.
Steffan Kerbl, technology expert at the ÖAMTC, emphasizes that various manufacturers offer different technical solutions to detect children in the vehicle. These systems are meant to support the responsibility of parents, but by no means to take it away from them. The expert states the basic rule clearly: „Kinder sollten niemals allein im Fahrzeug zurückgelassen werden, auch nicht für wenige Minuten“.
