The AfD federal party convention in Erfurt came to an end on Sunday with the confirmation of the party leadership around Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, while according to police around 31,000 people took to the streets of the Thuringian state capital to protest against the congress.

The two-day federal convention of the Alternative for Germany ended on Sunday afternoon without public disputes or substantive discussions, as unanimously reported from the venue, Messe Erfurt. On Saturday morning, an estimated 500 delegates had gathered to continue the assembly. The delegates left the grounds on Sunday afternoon without hindrance. The federal convention lasted one and a half days.

The designated leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla had already been confirmed the previous day without opposing candidates for a further two years in their offices. Weidel received 81.3 percent of the votes, slightly improving on her 2024 result. Chrupalla received around 70 percent – a significant decline compared to 83 percent at his previous election. Both thanked the delegates and turned their attention to the upcoming election campaigns.
