The Formula 1 race stewards overturned the two five-second penalties against Frenchman Pierre Gasly from the Monaco Grand Prix on Friday, with the Alpine driver getting his third place back.
The F1 stewards overturned the penalties against the Alpine driver on Friday for speeding in the pit lane. The Frenchman Gasly had finished third in the race, but dropped to seventh following the two five-second penalties that were imposed after the race the previous Sunday. With the decision off the table, he moves back up to third.
Background: Speeding in the pit lane
In Gasly's case, the lifting of the penalty was comparatively straightforward because the sanctions had only been imposed after the race and merely added to the race result. Other drivers had already served their penalties during the race, meaning their teams lacked the same protest options as Alpine. A total of five drivers were penalised in Monaco for excessive speed in the pit lane; in nearly all cases they were only 0.1 km/h over the permitted limit of 60 km/h.
