Karlsruhe, 20 July 2026

After the life-threatening fall of a 26-year-old Deutsche Bahn security employee from a moving regional train, the Karlsruhe Local Court rejected the requested arrest warrant against a 36-year-old suspect; the man was released.

In the incident on Friday evening, the Deutsche Bahn security employee had been called together with another colleague to conduct a ticket inspection on a regional train on the route from Offenburg to Karlsruhe, according to a statement from the Karlsruhe public prosecutor's office. During the inspection, the 36-year-old passenger allegedly became aggressive, insulted the two security personnel, and subsequently struck and kicked the 26-year-old multiple times.

What happened on the train?

In the course of the struggle, the train door gave way, the public prosecutor's office further stated. Through the gap that opened, the employee fell from the moving train at a speed of around 120 kilometers per hour shortly before Ettlingen (Karlsruhe district). He sustained life-threatening injuries and has been receiving medical care since then.
