After the lost penalty shootout against Paraguay, the German national team gathered on Tuesday morning (local time) at the World Cup camp in Winston-Salem for a final team meeting before the players travel home individually.
The team around captain Joshua Kimmich arrived in Winston-Salem in the early hours of Tuesday on a charter flight from Boston, where the team's quarters, The Graylyn Estate, are located. According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the return home will take place individually; a collective departure from the camp in North Carolina is not planned. On Tuesday morning, a final internal team meeting was on the agenda before the departure.
According to information from the team's circle, the meeting also dealt with handling the disappointment following the 3:4 penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in Foxborough. It was the third consecutive World Cup elimination in which the German team failed to advance past the knockout round – after the disappointing performances in 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.
