The think tank Agora Energiewende estimates that Germany will miss the climate target for 2026, while the Federal Ministry for the Environment considers reliable assessments possible only at year's end.

The think tank Agora Energiewende concludes from its own calculations that Germany will likely not meet the applicable climate protection requirements for 2026. The estimate was picked up by several media outlets, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), citing the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa).

The calculations indicate that greenhouse gas emissions in Germany in the current year could be above the permitted amount. This would widen the gap to the binding target that the Federal Republic has set itself as part of its climate policy.
