Germany will likely fail to meet its 2030 climate goals, primarily due to insufficient progress in reducing emissions from transport and buildings, according to a report by the Expert Council on Climate Issues.

Emissions Gap Widens

The Expert Council on Climate Issues has warned that Germany’s transport and buildings sectors are not on track to meet their emission reduction targets. "Verkehr und Gebäude erreichen ihre Sektorziele aktuell nicht und werden sie voraussichtlich auch bis 2030 nicht erreichen, während andere Bereiche ihre Ziele sogar übererfüllen," said Barbara Schlomann, chair of the council.

While other sectors are exceeding their targets, transport and buildings remain the primary drivers of CO2 emissions. The council’s findings highlight a growing disparity in Germany’s climate efforts, with some areas making significant progress while others fall behind.
