Germany will fail to achieve its 2030 climate targets, particularly in the transportation and building sectors, according to a report by the Expert Council for Climate Issues.

Key Findings

The Expert Council, established under Germany’s Climate Protection Act to review emissions data, found that while some sectors are exceeding their climate goals, transportation and buildings are lagging behind. Together, these two sectors account for more than one-third of Germany’s total emissions.

Barbara Schlomann, chair of the Expert Council, stated: *"Verkehr und Gebäude erreichen ihre Sektorziele aktuell nicht und werden sie voraussichtlich auch bis 2030 nicht erreichen"* ("Transportation and buildings are currently not meeting their sector targets and are unlikely to do so by 2030").
