The Egyptian team is concerned ahead of its first World Cup knockout match in 92 years about star player Mohamed Salah, who is doubtful for Friday's match (8:00 PM/ZDF and MagentaTV) at the Dallas Stadium due to a thigh strain sustained in the last group game against Iran.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan said at the press conference that he would not take any risks unless he was one hundred percent sure Salah was fit and ready for the match: "But of course I will not take any risks until I am one hundred percent sure that he is fit and ready for tomorrow." He hoped the attacker could play in Egypt's first World Cup round of 16 in decades, but was not yet sure whether he would be in the starting lineup: "But we are not yet sure whether he will be in the starting lineup."
Salah suffered a thigh strain in the last group game against Iran (1:1). The long-time striker for FC Liverpool, who has known a new chapter in his career since July 1 last year, is considered a key player for the "Pharaohs." His coach praised the attacker explicitly: "As far as I am concerned, he is technically and also in terms of cooperation within the team one of the best players I have, and he belongs to the best in the world."
