In Austria, the supply of emergency pens for people with severe insect sting allergies is currently tight according to specialists, while at the same time the wasp season is reaching its peak in late summer.

The supply problems with allergy pens affect patients who rely on rapid emergency medication after a sting. Anyone with an elevated risk of a severe allergic reaction can rely on such a pen in an emergency to bridge the time until medical help arrives. The current shortage is being closely monitored by allergists in Austria.

At the same time, experts warn of the increased danger from wasp stings in late summer. „Im Spätsommer schlüpfen viele Wespen, die auf Nahrungssuche sind, wurde in der Aussendung erläutert. Gleichzeitig werde das natürliche Nahrungsangebot knapper“, heißt es dazu. When wasps are disturbed while foraging, the likelihood of stings increases — and with it the risk of allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
