Amazon has announced that it is shutting down its crowdsourcing platform Mechanical Turk (MTurk). The program was developed to solve tasks where algorithms failed. These included capturing duplicate product pages or recognizing objects in photos.
According to the available sources, the discontinuation is set to take place in September 2026. Amazon had initially built MTurk for its own needs starting in 2005, before making the platform available to external clients as well.
