Annette Dittert uses British stereotypes in new contexts, placing everyday subjects such as gardening, colonial history and coastal imagery into unusual comparisons.

Annette Dittert draws on familiar ideas about Great Britain to connect them with new themes. The comparisons are intended not merely to repeat well-known clichés, but to show how the same images can acquire different meanings when placed in a different context.

One example is the comparison between gardening and the repression of colonial history. At first glance, the two subjects appear to be a long way apart. Dittert places them alongside each other to make a contradiction or an uncomfortable connection visible.
