At an art action at the Karl Lueger Monument in Vienna on Wednesday, Jewish artist Alon Ishay was subjected to antisemitic insults, spat on, and physically assaulted, after police had previously ended the action and filed charges against him and the vice-rector.
The action took place as part of an artistic walking tour during the "Angewandte Festival" of the University of Applied Arts. According to the "Standard," Ishay affixed "Shame" stickers to the monument and sprayed footprints on the ground using water-soluble spray chalk. "Es wurde ausschließlich wasserlösliche Sprühkreide verwendet und Sticker, die sich sogar durch den Wind ablösten", Ishay explained. He found it particularly disturbing that the event had been publicly announced in advance.
