Madrid, September 12, 2026
Kimi Antonelli won the Madrid Grand Prix on Sunday, claiming the first Formula 1 Grand Prix at the new "Madring" circuit.
The 19-year-old crossed the finish line ahead of Max Verstappen, who took second place in the Red Bull. It was the eighth Grand Prix victory of the Italian's career, moving him past his Mercedes teammate George Russell on the all-time list; Russell has seven wins to his name. For Antonelli, it is further proof of his continued strength this season following a dominant stretch.
Behind the two leaders, Lando Norris in the McLaren and Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari battled for the final podium spot. Norris held on narrowly, crossing the line in third. Lewis Hamilton, who has fallen short of expectations so far this season, finished fifth. The race at the "Madring" was billed as a logistical and sporting premiere and was described by the teams beforehand as a particular challenge.
