In an apartment fire in an apartment building in Remscheid on Monday evening, one resident was critically injured and the building became uninhabitable; around 70 emergency personnel were deployed.

The fire broke out late Monday evening on Julius-Lindenberg-Straße. According to police and fire department reports, around 10:15 p.m., a resident noticed a smell of smoke and saw smoke rising from a balcony while disposing of trash.

A short time later, flames erupted from an apartment on the first floor of the building. The fire then spread from the balcony to the roof structure of the building, as reported by the Remscheid fire department.
