Archaeologists have discovered several nearly 2,000-year-old tombs on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, including an almost sealed granite sarcophagus and 24 gold objects, Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced on Saturday.
The tombs were found, according to the ministry, in Marina El-Alamein, about a hundred kilometers west of Alexandria. Archaeologists had recently already discovered 18 Greco-Roman burial sites there, bringing the total number of known tombs at the site to 44, according to the ministry, since the site was discovered during construction work in 1986.
