Austria's Paul Wanner missed training on Thursday because of a calf problem and is to undergo an MRI scan, with the ÖFB awaiting results before Sunday's World Cup group finale against Algeria.
Wanner sat out the session at Austria's team camp in Santa Barbara after taking a knock to the calf during Monday's 2-0 loss to Argentina. ÖFB sporting director Peter Schöttel, speaking while training continued, said the federation expects the issue to be a minor one. "Wir gehen davon aus, dass es nichts Ernstes ist", sagte ÖFB-Sportdirektor Peter Schöttel bereits währenddessen beim Training in Santa Barbara.
Wanner is scheduled to undergo an MRI examination, and the plan is for him to return to full training on Friday if the scan brings positive news. Should he come through that session without setbacks, he would be available for the decisive Group H fixture against Algeria. The match in Kansas City is scheduled for Sunday, with kickoff at 4.00 a.m. CEST and live coverage on ORF1 (3.50 a.m. CEST for the broadcast start).
