Vienna, June 01, 2026
Shortly before kick-off of the test match between Austria and Tunisia at Vienna's Happel Stadium, team boss Ralf Rangnick had to change his starting eleven because Christoph Baumgartner sustained a thigh injury during warm-up.
Michael Gregoritsch moved into the first eleven for the attacking player. Rangnick had originally nominated a formation with A. Schlager in goal and Posch, Lienhart, Alaba, and Laimer in the back four. Seiwald and Xaver Schlager were intended for the midfield, with Schmid, Gregoritsch, and Sabitzer ahead of them, while Arnautovic was set to play as the lone striker.
Baumgartner's injury overshadows the Austrians' final test before the World Cup. The match against Tunisia takes place a little over two weeks before their first World Cup appearance against Jordan on June 17th. Rangnick had expressed optimism beforehand: "I wish for a good game, a win, and that no one gets injured."
