Match against Spain
The ÖFB selection narrowly lost to the favorites 1-2 and was unable to secure a victory in their final group stage match of the U19 European Championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The team coached by Markus Hackl nonetheless delivered a strong performance against the favored Spaniards. Emira Makalic scored for Austria, but in the end it was not enough for an upset against the group favorites.
Makalic scores against Spain – her goal alone underlines that the ÖFB selection did not hide against a notable opponent. The other players, including Elene Gurtubay and Alba Cerrato, also put in a focused performance over long stretches. The defeat changed nothing about reaching the historic first semifinal.
