Austria's U19-women defeated Switzerland 3:1 in Sarajevo on Wednesday and secured a place in the European Championship semifinal early – as the first female ÖFB youth team at a European Championship.

With their second win in their second group-stage match, the Austrian women completed the historic step. Markus Hackl's side had already beaten Iceland 3:0 in their opening match. Thanks to the victory against Switzerland, the ÖFB team has already secured its semifinal spot before its final group-stage match against defending champions Spain on Saturday (5 p.m.).

In an intense match, Katie Richter gave the ÖFB side a deserved 1:0 lead just before the break (41'). After the restart, captain Valentina Illinger extended the lead to 2:0 with a long-range strike (59'). Switzerland pulled one back, but in stoppage time Greta Spinn's goal made it 3:1 (92') for the final scoreline.
