Vienna, August 13, 2026
FK Austria Wien defeated Beitar Jerusalem 4:2 in a penalty shootout on Thursday evening, thereby reaching the next round of a European competition.
Drama from the spot
After regulation time and any extra time had been completed, the match was decided from the penalty spot, where Austria Wien kept their nerve. While both Eugene Ansah and Timothy Muzie failed to convert their attempts for Beitar Jerusalem—one hit the post and the other was saved by Samuel Sahin-Radlinger—only Vasilije Markovic was unsuccessful for the Vienna side. In the end, the score was 4:2 in favor of the hosts.
Goalkeeper Sahin-Radlinger was clearly the match-winner. The Vienna custodian thwarted two penalties from the Israeli side and was duly celebrated after the final whistle. During the preceding minutes, both teams had spent long periods battling for supremacy without either side being able to establish a decisive advantage. The penalty shootout then brought the decisive turn in Austria’s favor.
