The Austria Wien women traveled to SKN St. Pölten on the opening matchday of the new Bundesliga season and were unable to come away with a positive result.
To kick off the new campaign, Wiener Austria visited SKN St. Pölten, a club that has previously served as serial champion. The team from Lower Austria proved to be the dominant force in front of their home crowd and secured the first match of the season for themselves.
The Violets initially struggled to find their footing in the new setup. Lineup and tactical approach did not yet appear to be in sync, meaning the Viennese women had to focus on defense for long stretches.
In goal stood Pal. In front of her, Hanshaw, Uka, Schöffel, Weiss and Kirchberger formed the defensive line. In midfield and attack, Pfanner, Wenninger, Weilharter, Pfattner and Schiechtl took the field. The nominal lineup makes clear that the coaching staff intended to set new accents across virtually all areas of the team.
