The US Embassy acknowledged the incident to the Austrian newspaper *Die Presse*, attributing it to a "bürokratischen Fehler beim Genehmigungsantrag" ("bureaucratic error in the approval request"). Officials emphasized that the aircraft were not en route to Iran, as some speculation had suggested, but were instead headed to scheduled military exercises with partners in Romania.

"The planes were on their way to routine military drills with our partners in Romania," the embassy clarified. However, the Austrian Defense Ministry has yet to conclude its investigation. "The result is still pending," a ministry spokesperson said, without elaborating on the delay.

This marks the second time in recent months that Austrian Eurofighters have been deployed to intercept foreign military aircraft. The incident has raised questions about airspace security protocols, particularly concerning NATO-affiliated flights transiting neutral Austria.

The PC-12, a single-engine turboprop often used for transport and surveillance, is not typically associated with combat missions. However, its presence in restricted airspace without authorization has prompted heightened vigilance.
