The Austrian government continued discussions on Wednesday about its proposed ban on social media for children under 14, holding a second round table at the Federal Chancellery with major platform operators.

Technical and Legal Hurdles Remain

Digitalization Secretary Alexander Pröll of the conservative ÖVP party stated before the meeting that the government is "getting closer every day" to a legal and technical solution. "Es gibt eine technische und eine rechtliche Lösung," Pröll said, adding that officials would outline potential approaches in both areas.

However, critics argue significant obstacles remain. His remarks referenced unresolved questions about identity verification and the potential for de facto mandatory real-name policies.
