Austrian National Bank Governor Martin Kocher said Tuesday that the upcoming VAT reduction on staple foods from 10% to 4.9% will have a "leicht positiven Einfluss" (slightly positive impact) on inflation, though other fiscal measures may dilute its effects.

The Austrian parliament is set to approve the VAT reduction on certain food items this Thursday. Kocher noted that while the measure will be "leicht merken" (slightly noticeable) for consumers, its overall effect will be tempered by rising fees and new parcel charges.
