Austrian Post Honors David Alaba with Its Own Commemorative Stamp

In terms of design, the block makes visual reference to the pitch: green stripes and white lines are reminiscent of the structures of a football field. In total, the print run is being produced in a quantity of 160,000 copies.

Alaba himself was visibly moved by the honor. "Receiving a commemorative stamp of my own is a great privilege for me and a truly tremendous honor," the captain of the Austrian national football team is quoted as saying in a press release. In his statement, he went on to say: "Austria is my home, my country, my identity. It will be given a very special place in my home."

Austrian Post also emphasized the athlete's role model character. "With this stamp, we honor not only an exceptional athlete, but also a role model far beyond football." For fans and philatelists, there will be the opportunity on Monday at the official special post office in the Philately Shop at Post am Rochus (Rochusplatz 1, 1030 Vienna) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to have their letters and postcards stamped with a specially designed commemorative postmark.

Launch of a New Sport Stamp Series

The "Sport" stamp series from Austrian Post will in future include further issues dedicated to various athletes. With the launch honoring Alaba, the company is setting a sign for the appreciation of Austrian sporting greats.

The club and the federation also offered their congratulations. A spokesperson pointed to Alaba's services to the national team and emphasized that the honor extends beyond sport to also represent social cohesion in Austria.
