A strong autumn storm of the "Nor'easter" type is moving toward the US East Coast according to the US National Weather Service (NWS) and is expected to strike New Jersey and Long Island with severe flooding and meter-high waves overnight into Sunday.

The NWS expects the storm to move toward New Jersey and Long Island overnight into Sunday. The region will be hit on Sunday morning (local time) with "voller Wucht," the NWS stated. The storm had previously been referred to as a "Nor'easter" – a term for extratropical storms that typically occur along the North American East Coast between autumn and spring.

According to the NWS, further severe flooding and meter-high waves threaten the Atlantic coast. Authorities called on residents in vulnerable coastal areas to prepare for possible evacuations and to stock emergency supplies. Landslides and power outages are not ruled out.
