A Russian drone attack struck the village of Marhanets in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, killing a baby, according to authorities.

Background to the drone attacks

In the attack during the night of 15 August 2026, a baby was killed, according to Ukrainian authorities. Dnipropetrovsk region governor Ivan Fedorov and the mayor of Marhanets, Oleksandr Khansha, confirmed the child's death. Both spoke of several injured people who were taken to hospitals. Marhanets is located in the central Ukrainian Dnipropetrovsk region, which has been regularly targeted by Russian drone attacks for months.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the attack wave was one of the largest of the entire war. Hundreds of drones had been launched from Russian territory during the night alone. The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that its own air defence had intercepted almost 600 Ukrainian drones. In Russia's Volga region of Samara, Ukraine had attacked an industrial facility, according to governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.
