Birmingham, 14 August 2026
Italy's Nadia Battocletti has also won the 10,000 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, claiming the long-distance double for the second time after 2024 in Rome.
Battocletti had already triumphed over the shorter of the two long-distance events and now added the 10,000 metres. With this, the Italian achieved at the European Championships in Birmingham exactly the same combination as at the home European Championships in 2024 in Rome, when she likewise took the gold medals over 5,000 and 10,000 metres.
Double as in Rome
The success in Birmingham underlines Battocletti's status as the dominant long-distance runner in Europe. In recent years, she had gradually worked her way to the top of the continental long-distance field, drawing attention with consistently strong performances.
