Michael Olise of FC Bayern Munich led France to a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland with three goals in coach Didier Deschamps' final home match, while the Netherlands labored to a 2:1 victory against Uzbekistan in New York.
Two weeks before the start of the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, the top European national teams played their final warm-up matches on Monday evening. The performance of Michael Olise was the main focus: the 24-year-old from FC Bayern Munich scored all three French goals in the 3-1 (1-0) victory for Les Bleus over Northern Ireland in Lille.
France, entering the tournament as the defending runners-up, controlled the match from the start but initially struggled to turn their dominance into goals. After a promising but inaccurate effort by Kylian Mbappe (14th) and a shot off the post by Aurelien Tchouameni (21st), it took until just before the break for Olise to tap in the 1-0.
