Berlin, 01 July 2026

The Berlin Administrative Court has confirmed the broadcasting ban imposed in February 2022 by the Berlin-Brandenburg media authority against the German branch of the Russian state broadcaster Russia Today (RT DE) and dismissed the lawsuit filed by RT DE Productions GmbH.

RT DE Productions GmbH had begun broadcasting in December 2021 without the broadcasting license required in Germany. The Berlin-Brandenburg media authority therefore imposed a broadcasting ban on the German-language program at the beginning of February 2022, prompting the company to take the matter to court.

According to a court spokesperson, the Berlin Administrative Court has now dismissed the lawsuit. The central question in the proceedings was whether a broadcasting license was actually required for RT DE's program in Germany. The court ruled that this was unquestionably the case.
